Services

Our Whole Person Assessment relies primarily on the input of behavioral health clinicians, and our Open Dialogue process offers an alternative to formal assessments. Over the course of your stay, as a new client you will participate in weekly discussions with your team of professionals including your personal trainer, massage therapist, Reiki practitioner, nutritionist, and clinical professionals to gain self-understanding about your challenges and dreams.  Ultimately, this self-knowledge enables you to fully participate and design your own treatment plan, called Wellness Map to Recovery.  Thus, through Open Dialogue, you, the client have a large and empowering role in determining the nature of your treatment and in establishing your life goal(s).

Healing Hills sees this phase as an important period during which we get to know you and you get to know us. We offer two gateways to treatment:  (a) our comprehensive Whole Person Assessment or (b) our Open Dialogue process.  Often, when appropriate, we combine these two ways of starting treatment.

Whole Person Assessment

Our “whole person” model aims to help people recover not only from the disruption caused by adverse experiences caused by maladaptive substance use, but also from social losses that typically accompany this behavior. We focus on psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery, the evidence-based best practices in clinical treatments, recreational and group experiences, thorough diagnostic investigations, vocational/educational counseling, best practice approaches to people with co-occurring addiction and psychiatric issues, and help with daily activities on the island and surrounding tropical waters. We provide these services through a model that is comprehensive, flexible, and focused on empowering our clients as the leaders in their care.

This form of assessment involves a series of interviews, as well as psychological and vocational testing.  Taken together, these give us an in-depth, multi-faceted understanding of a client as a unique and complex individual.  When the assessment is complete, we meet with our client and his or her family to review our findings and provide our Wellness Map to Recovery plan. The plan is a design for treatment based on the client’s needs and life goals.

During a client’s initial period with us, the Whole Person Assessment, Open Dialogue process and Wellness Map to Recovery Plan guide us to a decision regarding which services they need. Once the assessment is completed, we begin to determine the level of services needed, and base length of stay on this determination.

A typical treatment plan includes up to 30 hours a week of care management from our staff (often including a high level of medication monitoring, possible testing for substance abuse, weekend and evening visits, psychiatric appointments up to twice a week, transportation to appointments, travel by staff to the community resources, general psychosocial care, and contact with family members)
